The programming language
Python
has been available since 1991
and, like Linux, is reaching critical recognition.
Python's success is due to the power and parsimony of its design.
Similar to Perl but more object-oriented, Python is especially useful for
text processing, CGI (web) programming and systems administration tasks.Dr. Bentson will outline the major features of the language and illustrate programming techniques with simple programs. He will also discuss concerns about using Python, or any interpreted language, in a production setting.
