Libre Services are an extension of the principles of the Free Software Movement to the domain of Internet application services. Libre Services are Internet application services which may be freely copied, reproduced, extended, and redistributed. Two early realizations of Libre Services are WhiteBerry, an open-source alternative to BlackBerry, and ByName a franchizable customer-owned application service provider. Richard Anderson will discuss the use of pipes in shell scripting: the underlying mechanism, a little-known trap associated with pipes and how a related Perl mechanism works.
