The October 2005 presentation for the Seattle Unix Group meeting will focus on the future of this organization. This organization was founded in May 1984 (21+ years ago), and over the years has provided the seeds of leadership for other regional user groups. While Linux has gained significant popularity and recognition, the rise in associated user support groups has also grown. To an unknown extent this is diminished the sigificance of Unix among junior level computer specialists and scientists. Nevertheless, Unix is still a great OS and used in most government offices and many businesses for mission critical applications. As the interest in Linux has increased, interest in attending and participating in the Unix group has decreased. The reasons may be many. Our goal in this meeting is to determine what options or routes the Seattle Unix User Group should pursue to survive, evolve or disband in this changing IT environment.
We welcome all of our current and past board members, current members and visitors to participate in this discussion
We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.
